The fact that voices and actions striving for equality within society are considered "extreme" shows the worrying position we are currently in. We are wading through a very dark and right-wing period, where the media's normalization of fascist ideas is seeping into the minds of everyday people. To see the fight for equal rights as "extreme" is worrying.
The wealth of the nation should be distributed more evenly so people don't have to live in absolute poverty, people should not be judged or held back in society based on their skin colour or class and people shouldn't suffer hate crime based on their race, gender and sexuality, all viewpoints considered "extreme", or worse, not applicable. Where not wanting to kill innocent people or be killed for being yourself is considered "irrational". These things should not be up for debate, and if you are contesting whether these issues exist without actually being affected by them, you have no right. Just because you are not affected it doesn't mean that they don't exist.

This shift to the right deems wanting basic human rights as "extreme" and people with vile, outdated views are held up as the "voice of reason". And if your voice of reason defends the indefensible then what reason is left?

One of Jess' main inspirations is vintage erotica. Here she creates cheeky adverts inspired by the back pages of adult magazines. The Wickedest Ride is taken from a condom advert Carlene Smith fronted in Jamaica in the 1980s to promote safe sex.

Having rarely see artwork created about self harm that depicts something positive Jess decided to create something that she and others could relate to, especially as it is an issue personal to herself. This painting symbolizes the ups and downs that come with having depression and creating something beautiful and inspiring as a healing process.
